I Love My Profession!

What Social Workers Make...

The dinner guests were sitting around the table discussing life. One man decided to
explain the problem with social services. He argued, “How’s a person going to benefit
from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a social worker?” He
reminded the other dinner guests what they say about social workers—“bleeding heart
liberals.” To stress his point, he said to one of the guests, “You’re a social worker,
Bonnie. Be honest. What do you make?”

Bonnie, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness, replied, “You want to know
what I make?” She paused for a second, and then began.

“Well, my colleagues and I make safe places for abused children and battered
wives. In the process, we do our best to make them feel that they didn’t deserve
the treatment they got, so they can go out and do better in their lives.
“We make arrangements for the elderly to go home from hospitals with adequate
care, and run support groups so their caregivers don’t burn out.
“When a young widow or single mother doesn’t know where to turn, my
colleagues and I make sure that she knows—whether people like it or not—what
benefits she’s eligible for. And we do the best we can to make sure she doesn’t
get lost in the bureaucracy.
“We make plans with clients so they can get jobs and homes. And this is only a
start.

“You want to know what social workers make?” Bonnie asked again. She paused and
looked at every person at the table.

“We make visits in neighborhoods that a lot of people wouldn’t go to on a bet,
because we know that people there are in need. And we make friends there who
invite us back to their weddings, their luaus, and the opening of the community
center that we campaigned for.
“We make time to listen to the elderly, the mentally ill, the lonely. And we have
knowledge and skills to help them make real improvements in their lives.
“We make appointments with officials and testify before the legislature to get
everyone in the community a fair shake.
“Some of us teach, to make the next generation’s social workers.
“And sometimes, we make plans with our friends and families—and then have to
break them because there’s an accident, a fire, a disaster here or in another state
or even another country, and a social worker is needed.”

Bonnie paused one last time and then continued. “So when people want to judge us by
what we make, we can hold our heads up high and say, ‘I make a difference. . . . What do
you make?’”

Faith without works is dead!

So I got a text message from one of my close brotha’s this morning. One of my brotha’s in God. I don’t think he knows this, but he somehow always tells me things that I need to hear…I think we all need people in our life like this. Somebody that gives you that reassurance when they don’t even know it. It can be information that you already know, but when you hear it come from another mouth that can be all you need! I believe that’s how God and the universe works!

So at the end of this text message, he said “faith without works is dead!” Simple enough right…

I feel that a lot of times people can get caught up in faith, and no work..And just as often, it can be the other way around…work and no faith..

I believe that both work hand in hand. A lot of times people think that they can work their ways through certain things, but at the end of the day you can only do so much work.. the rest is out of your hands. ..you have to leave it up to God and the Universe to work itself out.

And then on the other hand.. just having faith will get you nowhere! If you have faith that thing are going to work in your favor, but you don’t do any work…how much sense does that make?

You need to figure out how to make the two work together and for each other..Its all on you

Happy Friday!

I say it over and over again…wasting time can be one of the worst things that you can do as a human being. It puts you at a stagnate position.. there is no movement happening. There is a difference between wasting time and taking a break…and you have to figure out what that is.

Understand your dreams and goals. But have a better understanding that there are millions of other people that have dreams and goals as well. How is your road to reaching your dreams different than others?

I can give you one tip. When one person rests…many more rest with them. This is your time to get ahead!!!

Know your keys to success...

Team NERDY is having there release party this Saturday!! Nerdy is an emerging streetwear brand rising from Chicago. If you are in the area you should definitely check them out. Big ups to the homies on the nerdy team...I see great things in store. Make sure you check out their blog --> www.be-nerdy.com

When do you actually grow..

One thing that I am starting to learn is that I hardly gain anything from winning. And by winning I mean everything that goes well in life. I mean… yeah I love for things to be smooth and my life to be with fewer complications. ..

But when our life is like this, do we actually grow as much?

Think about all the times when you go through hard things in life.. When nothing is seeming to go right . When your back is against that wall…

Now think about when you overcome these obstacles.. did great personal growth happen?

.. the act of losing can bring great wisdom!

THINK ABOUT IT

Like it or not, 2010 is here! It’s a new beginning, time for new goals, new aspirations and new motivations. I know I’m not the only one out there that’s trying to do new and bigger things. When thinking about what 2010 is going to bring you, and the things you want to do; think about.. …

..how can I separate myself from the masses

..how can I be more innovative

..how am I helping the universe with this

..how will this help me give back

..will this help me be remembered forever, or just now

I know it’s my time. I know I’m a give it all I got. I know I got great things in store for me. I got arms; I’m a reach for the sky. How are you going to make all the happenings that you want to come in 2010 last..and actually happen. It’s all up to you!

Be a Champion!

Any journey that you start, either if it’s a thousand miles, or just twenty feet…it all starts with that first step. I hear so many people say they wish they had this, that, and everything in between…The thing that amazes me is most about these people, is most of them have not even taken the first step to getting what they want. I mean, they make it seem as if these desires that they have are just going to fall in their lap. Anything that is worth having in this world is not going to be handed to you, or be easy to obtain by any means…somewhere down the road you are going to have to put in the work.

The approach that I take is to not have a great desire of money and material items… but to have a desire of success, and to have a desire of success; I have to have a BURNING DESIRE TO WORK! If I position my focus there, I know everything else will fall into place.

Matthew 9:37 says… “The harvests is plentiful, but the laborers are few”

“Our work is never over”

What a beautiful day it is…

Not in the sense of the weather, sunshine..or lack thereof. But in the sense that we are lucky/blessed to even see this day.. That we have the opportunity to express ourselves however we feel. That we have the choice to add to the hate, or increase the positive. To continue to gain .. or to give back. To think/talk about the change .. Or be the change. To talk about love .. or show love

See we live in a universe now where it is very hard to see and feel love. We as mortals in this world get so caught up in life that we probably don’t even notice it. Love is a beautiful thing, and should be seen and felt in many different behaviors and acts of life.

Every day we walk out our house, there are a million of things going on around us. People looking unhappy, road rage, drug deals and people dying.

Why is this a norm and a custom of what this universe is…is this what we are here for? Is this what we are to experience? Is this what we are to see and do nothing to change?

Think of everything that has happened in this world because of the lack of love…

Love is; but isn’t complicated at all! Loving you is loving me! If you love the universe, it will love you back. If you love people, they will love you back. If love is a place where you want to go...first you must go within. Be genuine and you will be felt…

Ok, on the count of three…I’m going to my fantasy…

Unless you are willing to drench/saturate/douse/flood/soak/over flood/immerse and engross yourself in your work beyond the capacity of the average man, you are just not cut out for positions at the top

This is a very thirst and hungry universe that we live in. The next man is always working harder than the net man! What are you doing to put yourself on top?

As the weekend approaches us…will you look at it as time to rest, or will you look at is as a time to get ahead because the average man is resting!

You will only go as far as you want to.

Are you cut out to be on top?

I apologize to you all right now…its been like two weeks since I hit you with something. My world has been super crazy/busy and I’m just trying to make sure I balance everything. Working a full-time job and being a full-time student is serious business. And then of course I love to work out and play basketball…got to have some me time in there somewhere. I think I’m finally finding that balance of what is needed of me to be successful in all that I do. If I’m ever involved in something, I have to do it to my best ability…no half stepping my way.

But yo I got something to tell you... So the weather here in Iowa has been crazy nice…I don’t understand it, but I’m not going to complain! But, I went to the car wash the other day…I hadn’t washed my car in about a month. And for those who know me, know I keep my car clean. But as I was vacuuming my car out, I couldn’t help but notice this older couple that walked by. I don’t like to judge people but the thing that stuck out to me was that they seemed to be in poverty/or lower class. By making that assumption and watching them walk away…so many thoughts have crossed my mind.

This couple was not dressed nice, not well groomed, and didn’t seem to have what the world calls the nicer things in life. Who know their circumstances…but I do know one thing; that was one beautiful sight!

…I couldn’t help but to think about obstacles they may have overcame together, how long they been together, how much they have to walk to get to places they need/want to be, how much pain and suffrage they have went through, if they have family, how they got to where they are today. So many thoughts continued to poor out….

But as I continued to watch them walk together…they had the biggest smiles I have seen in a while, and a glow that you could not look past.

Who knows if any of these thoughts that came to my mind are true? …and I know my assumptions about them may be ignorant. But I do know one thing. This couple made me realize that there is always something to smile about!

Let’s work on not getting caught up in the world! But let’s enrich life, and pay it forward! I’m sure there are many things going on in your life that can keep you down…but I bet there are many things happening that can keep you up. You have to be high when your low! I know the world is ugly, but it’s also beautiful! What are you doing to enhance that beauty?

We all have a role and a special purpose. Whatever you do…don’t forget to smile!

More than a human being…

We are all placed on this earth for a reason. We all have purpose. We all have meaning. We all enrich life. We all are eternal.

But there is one thing that all of us have, that is different than the next person. It’s something that is hard for me to explain. You know…have you ever been around certain people, and they like give off this vibe. Like you can just feel all kinds of energy around them! It’s a great feeling right? You like being around them?

I think every person has energy like this. Every person has the ability to be more than just a human being… If you are truly seeking to live life to the fullest, you should want to be more than just a human being. You should want to give off this energy that others want to be around. Your energy can be warmth, compassion, energetic, love, funny, comfort and many others! We all need to find out what our energy is and tap into it…

After you know what your energy is, it’s not something you work on…it’s something that is natural. It is given off to others around you without you even knowing. There is great energy to be used in this universe!

To my people being more than human!

I LOVE MONDAYS!!!!!!!!!

Too many times on Mondays, either if you are at work, school, the gym, or in your own house…you hear people say “It’s Monday (sigh).” Or you hear, “It’s just another Monday, you know how those are!!”

NO, I DON’T KNOW HOW THOSE ARE!!! Life is a gift that God has given me today; this is the best gift that any person can receive. With that on the table, I am on a daily strive of living life to the fullest with no regrets.

Anything that you want to do in this life, you have to do it with hard work and dedication. I have learned by changing my major four times in college that you have to find that “something” that you can apply to your heart and soul. Once you find something that you love to do, no one can stop you from doing it. Since I am blessed to have the opportunity to work with kids on a daily basis, I love Mondays because I see that as another day to change someone’s life. I love Monday’s because this is another day that somebody didn’t get to see. I love Mondays because it’s another day I get to grow as a person and work on being eternal.

Why do you love Mondays?

OneLove.

Forget the Stock Market!!!!!!!!!!!

When you hear the word investment, you think about a lot of time, effort and energy going into something; so that you can receive something in return. For the most part, people use investments with money…as if there is no other way to invest. We also invest in things that we could really care less about…we are just looking/waiting on what the possible outcome could be.

For me, I try to look at investment in a different light. I try to look at it as who may my investment help…instead of looking at what I can get in return. When you are looking to help others and the universe with your investment, it will be a lot meaningful; and I’m sure the people you help will pay it forward. Investment aren’t, and should not only be money. You need to be present in your investment. I’m positive your time is way more valuable than money. Investment is a great power that we need to use to mold this universe.

Don’t invest looking at only what you are going to get in return…

Forget the Stock Market…invest into your family, friends and loved ones!

One Love.

So a while ago, I got an email from somebody asking me about my blog and some of the things that I write, here it is...

“So I was reading some of your blog's posts, and I just had two questions. What exactly is it that you want from life? And, what do you mean by you, "dream big"?”

I was shocked to get this email. I guess I just wasn’t expecting someone to email me about my blog. Then I started to think. This person is destined for greatness! They want greatness in their life, and are seeking out other people that want to achieve greatness as well. It makes perfect sense. Well, I went on to reply, saying…

Question 1; What exactly is it that you want from life?
I just want to be able to achieve all things that I never saw myself being able to do. This may be to overcome my own self doubt as well as the doubt that others have in me. Like growing up, the only thing I saw in my future was basketball. Basketball was that one thing that I was good at, and the reason why I interested people…but I want more than just that. Growing and wanting to reach my full potential, I now want to write a book, I want to give back in every way, shape and form, I want to help my family and friends, and most importantly I want to help youth realize that they can do anything if you set your mind to it.

Question 2: What do you mean by you "dream big"?
Dream big means DREAM BIG!! Like sometimes we dream, and we start to take things out of that dream. Why not leave everything in the dream and see how far you can go. I feel like the biggest obstacle to overcome is in our head (our own doubt), and after we get over that, nothing can stop us.

The person then went and replied to me saying…
Yeah, apparently we are bound by speech, you know, as in we say "I can't do this...I can't do that..." So, if you believe you can't do this or that then you can't because that's what you set your limits to. There wasn't really a reason besides pure curiosity. I just like learning what drives determined people.

Why aren’t more people curious these days? When we see people where we want to be…why don’t we ask them how they go there? Doesn’t it make sense?

What are you doing to get to where you want to be?

One Love.
